La Semaine du Golfe du Morbihan May 2007
La Semaind du Golfe du Morbihan (SdG) had it all: John Kerr exceeding her sailing speed record (unintended and in a line squall) when her timbers were humming like a string orchestra, close encounters with the bosom of La Recouverance’s figurehead and negotiation of the 7 knot tide with overfalls. All this within the the magical pattern of islands that make up the Gulf of Morbihan and in the company of some 16 Bantry gigs (to say nothing of the near 1000 other craft).
If that was not enough, we also enjoyed the most generous hospitality: official welcome, a Sea Fair reunion party with the crews that came to Pembrokeshire last year, crew receptions and flotilla dinners. Oysters, wine and good living ensured that energy and enthusiasm were maintained throughout the week, despite some disappointing weather at times.
Many thanks to everyone who made the effort and met the expense of getting to the Morbiahan and for their excellent team spirit, and to our members who were not able to make and were deprived of Cwch John Kerr in the meantime. Thanks are also due to the Trustees of Atlantic Challenge UK for pulling out all the stops so that Integrite could could accompany CJK, an effort appreciated by the French, as our two boats were the only gigs from outside France to attend SdG.
A return to the SdG is planned for 2009. More photos in the gallery.
